Using And 8v Throttle On An Mi16

Recommended Posts

Worked out it causes a 13.43% decrease in area. Will this make much of a difference in restricting airflow to a std head or does it not really matter and the greater airspeed would equal it out anyway??

Personally I'd say yes it will make quite a difference loosing over an 1/8th of the throttle body volume & the amount of work needed to sculpt an 8v tb onto an Mi inlet would make it a pain.

Gutmann i16v's used them, surely they wouldn't have if it disurbed the flow that much and gave less power?

I thought they were larger?

Maybe he used a bored out one, which is easier with the 8v TB...

A French guy dids it a while ago and sent me a photo... Looked good!

What's the ID of an 8v TB? And the ID of each of the throttles in the Mi TB?

The Gutmann has a bespoke inlet that was made for them so in that case it would fit straight on, whether the standard TB is used without any modification I don't know.

The standard 8v TB is 55mm inlet & 59mm outlet

The Mi has two 37~mm ports.

Gutmann used this TB cause it was already in all GTI´s which they converted. And the Mi16 engine came new without any ancillaries. So to save cost, they made the inletmanifold to fit the 8V Throttlebody.

This information was from a Gutmann employee.
