Gti6 Brakes And Brake Hose Choice

Recommended Posts

mos

hi

finally got around to looking into why my 1.9gti s pulls to left and discovered a problem with my brake pads sticking on.

after delving a little deeper i discovered i have a internally collapsed front flexi hose, its acting like a one way valve, letting fluid past when i brake but not letting fluid back up to the master cylinder etc.

at first i thought it would have been a master cylinder fault or sticking brake caliper but after ruling these out through a process of elimination i traced the fault to the front flexi hose.

now front flexi hoses dont seem to last too long on this or any other 205 i have fitted gti6 brakes to, they seem to crack rather too quickly.

after spending a bit of time searching on here it seems that some people think there is a problem with the standard hoses being a little on the short side, particularly when used with none standard brake calipers.

i am thinking this could be the cause of not only my collapsed hose but also the premature cracking with front flexi hoses i have seen in the past

quite a few people seem to be having custom braided hoses made up that are about 50mm longer than standard.

but what i want to know is are there any standard peugeot options, such as gti6 front flexi hoses for example, that are longer than the standard 205 gti jobbies that will do the job as i dont run braided hoses on either of my two 205s and i dont really want to be paying the expense of 4 custom made front braided hoses.

i will need 4 as i am about to fit gti6 brakes to my other 205.

i will be going up to brakeparts in rochdale to get a 23.8mm master cylinder, discs and pads for my second 205 anyway so while i am there its the ideal opportunity to pick up some standard brake hoses if i know what to buy.

anyone help me with this?

thanks

not the answer you want directly but If you get no luck here, while you're at Brakeparts ask them to show you a 205 hose, and a 306 hose and compare, easy innit!!

its a good idea in principle and i di intial think of just doing that

but quite often when i have been to brakeparts they dont have the part there and then and have to order it in

thats when i start getting into returns charges etc

i rather be able to just show up and buy a specific thing

thanks

Higgy

The GTi-6 (well Xara VTS) flexi's are fine if you can find a suitable fixment to the inner wheel arch bracket.

I was using flexi lines initally as my 205 ones were too short, however the method of fixing these hoses to the inner arch bracket is different from that of the 205.

The bracket I am on about, is where the rigid pipe meets the flex.

Top - standard 205

Middle - Xara VTS

Looking at the right hand side you can see the different fittings.

The 306 hose will be long enough, any 306 with vented disc's use the same hose it's just the fitting as Higgy's said but the solid line will screw into it,
