if theyre the same as the older ones, then you have to lever them out of the box. doesnt take much force, a good flat screwdriver should be sufficient

Thats been my experience with vauxhalls too, the shafts need levering until they 'click' out of the box and they need to be positively located back in again too, unlike Pug ones which just float.

you don't need to remove the shaft to replace the joint, there's a circlip in the cv joint that locks it to the shaft. There's a special tool that opens the circlip enough to take the joint off the shaft

any ideas on what the tool is or a part number maybe , as i did try to change the joints but couldn't get them off the splines , i thought that if i could get the shaft out and put it in a vice and whack it off :P .

i know it like and internal circlip that sits in a recess , its just getting it out thats the problem

it looks like a mini pair of scissors with a screw and nut on it, i saw the tool on ebay last night but can't find it now. You can use external circlip pliers but is very fiddly, you'll see 2 tabs in the joint and you have to open them up but is hard to see them with all the grease!

you are a diamond my friend , seem a little steep though so i may give it a go with normal circlip pliers.

do you compress the clip or open it up to remove the joint?

pete

sorry just read your other post and you open it right?

yeah, you open them up and 'tap' the cv joint off, is quite fiddly and very messy!
