matt-k 0 Posted March 17, 2007 Hi, im steadily rebuilding a 1.9 Mi engine and theres a small dent right on top of No1 piston about 5mm in from the edge and about 1mm or so deep. It looks as if somebodys took a medium sized screwdriver and struck it with a hammer! Could this cause any problems or will it be fine? There are no other marks on the pistons and the valves are good to. Thanks Matt.
Higgy 0 Posted March 17, 2007 When I took my Mi engine apart (I bought it with snapped cambelt) there was a couple of dents where the exhaust valves had 'kissed' the piston tops. I rebuilt the engine and it has done 2k miles fine. (your engine sounds like it could have had a snapped belt in the past, or previous owner like hitting things with screwdrivers ). I would try and clean the dent up to make sure there are no other finer cracks coming away from it. I would say that its its just 1mm deep there should not be a problem. Higgy.
