Crank Shaft Oil Seal / Clutch Allignment

Recommended Posts

Putting the quaiffe in at the weekend so the box is coming off..

taken this opportunity to do some of the harder to reach oil seals that appear to be making the engine oily.

have a question on the crank shaft oil seal behind the flywheel...

How much time does it take to remove the clutch and flywheel?

whats the best way of alligning the clutch upon replacement?

cheers

Justin.

I recently did the crankshaft oil seal. Clutch & flywheel are quite easy to take off, just lots of bolts :D

Watch out as flywheel is quite heavy and could fall off (much lighter than a 2.0 Pinto one though :P).

Main problem will be knocking the crankshaft oil seal in flat. Mine ended up going in a bit more than I wanted too in order for it to be square but it does not leak and the recess is quite deep compared to the thickness of the seal.

Higgy.

I've just replaced the cambelt end crankshaft seal; a cheap one from a well known parts company wouldn't go in straight, but one from Peugeot went in properly.

You should get a clutch alignment tool in with a clutch kit iirc so someone on here might have one spare.

I too managed to put the seal in squint but found that a socket extension and some gentle hammering can be used to square it up again.

Also remember to get threadlock for the fly wheel and clutch bolts.

I have one and am in Swindon if you get stuck. But if your clutch kit does not come with one you can buy them for very little money at most motor factors.

extended sockets work just as well if you have a set

The best allignment tool is cutting an input shaft off an old box and welding a handle on it, never any doubt that its going to be out then. Works a treat ;)
