Tachy Relay Problem

Recommended Posts

Richie-Van-GTi

Im having issues getting my tach relay to energise the fuel pump. due to most the loom being cut out there is no longer the wire from ecu to tach relay, Large white wire bang in the centre. I had assumed this was a signal out to ecu but it appears unless there is a voltage here then the fuel pump wont switch on.

Need to know where I can take a voltage from that will cut when the engine stalls etc. I tried coil negative but it seems due to the fact it already has this feed elsewhere it just kills the car.

Anything off wire #2 in the fusebox stays live when cranking, which in turn feeds the coil and ignition amp ,wire #2a and #2b IIRC.

thanks, I checked them and they are staying live if the engine isnt running but ignition is on. Ive decided to ditych the tach relay and use a switching 40 amp relay instead and have the oil pressure switch inline with the coil side so when the oil light comes on the fuel pump goes off.

Also a lot cheaper to replace that relay than a tach relay if needed in future. plus it saves another gram or so in weight ;)
