Juddering Problem

Right ho..

I was on track at Donno for the first time on sunday...

Did 4 sessions perfectly....

5th session coming out of Copse (right hand corner on to dunlop straight) I started to hear a knocking noise from the front left.

As I straigtened up, the car was pulling to the left and the steering wheel was vibrating quite viciously.

I imediatly slowed down

On entry into Goddards (right) the steering was noticably more difficult to turn to the right and out of Goddards (left) into the pits was noticably easier. Again in a straight line the steering wheel was juddering but as I was at a much slower speed the car didn't seem to pull as I drove to the pit garage.

I left the car to cool down while I inspected the bottom arms, drive shafts etc and found nothing obviously broken.

I then went out to the car park to do some tight circles and figure of 8's to try and replicate the fault.

I could not.

So I went out for session 6- 5 laps in no probs - Then lap 6 same place- Same problems EXACTLY.

The car runs Mi16 engine with the gearbox where to engage reverse it pull up and up and to the left-

I am led to believe it is the Be3 1.9 box.

The box also has a Quaife ATB diff.

I was thinking it was a drive shaft so will replace them- also looking at them they're a bit old and s*itty... so I will class them as a service item

Could I be right?

I am also going to replace both bottom arms and drop links as they look a bit old and s*itty too- lol....

I am also going to replace the gearbox oil as a precaution- what should I use?

I am a little concerned though that the ATB could be over heating and/or locking up thus there is a prolem with it and I need it serviced. Is this likely? Who could do it? What would the cost be roughly?

Thanks guys

Jake

Have you recently had your drive shafts out/replaced them?

It sounds like could have dropped a pin/bearing.

Check your gearbox bell-housing for tightness too.

for oil you need total BV in the gearbox.

Juddering check your pads and calipers are tight, could possibly be a pad jarring into an angle on one side?

Mine did this too when a driveshaft was faulty but only once it had warmed up...
