TaffyTim 6 Posted March 14, 2007 One of my tyres has slowly been going down, Miles suggested that the insides of the rim might be a little less than perfect and he's right. How do i sort this bobbling out? can someone with experience give me a guide? I assume its a case of wet and dry it down to a smooth finish then lacquer it. Am i close to the mark? If so how do i do it as ive never seen a can a lacquer let alone used one ps I have searched and this has not been covered. Refurbishing the outside of the wheel has been covered in depth but this is not what im doing.
welshpug 1,666 Posted March 14, 2007 just get the tryre fitter to whizz round it with a wire brush wheel in an air drill before they whack the tyre back on, thats what my tyre fitter did when I mentioned that the particular wheel lost pressure and its been spot on since (I guess the gloop they slap on the tyre and the rim stops the corrosion)
Richie-Van-GTi 74 2 Cars Posted March 14, 2007 yup, my local fitters always give the inner rims a quick flapper wheel polish before fitting. Never had any issues.
clifton 0 Posted March 14, 2007 yeh thats what you do....i have to do this at work nearly everyday......just wirebrush/wheel it down until its smooth and then stick it back on..
TaffyTim 6 Posted March 15, 2007 ok, i'll take it to a good place and ask them to sort it for me. I originally took it to a quick fit as it was a Sunday and all i wanted them to do was tell me why it was going down. Consequently when he put it back in the cradle (tyre and rim in one piece) he threaded the cradle release screw. When i took it to a trusted tyre place on Tuesday to remove the tyre, they couldnt get the spare off the cradle and sent me off to KF to fix their problem. It then took 4 of the KF boys to get it out and I have to go back when the boss is in to see what they will do about it as the cradle is now held shut by cable ties
