Carbon Emissions

This is actually on my fiances 306 XSI, but I'm asking here as I want an answer from people with good technical knowledge, not people who pay halfords numpties to fit windscreen wipers for them (insert large peugeot club here).

Its failed big time on the carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emmisions, something like 7%, rather than the allowed 0.5%.

The car does a lot of small trips, no more than three or four miles, and rarely gets a good run (last reasonable journey was about 35miles two weeks ago). I'm thining its probably just sooted up, and with a can of redex or the likes and a good rag it will blow itself through.

BUT, as i dont want to waste a free re-test, has anyone experienced similar 306 problems related to cat, ecu, lamda probe etc??

Happens quite often....give it a good long run and the carbon deposits should be gone and the engine should present fine values.

If not, you can always give it some false air when at the MOT station (ie disconnect a hose after the throttlebody, CO will drop dramatically and engine will run s*ite :) ).

Check your pipe to the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor. It splits and lets in air thus confusing the ECU.

Otherwise, if a good thrash does not sort it, I'd go looking at the Lambda sensor. Is your K (Engine Management) light coming on at all?

No no engine management light. I'm guessing that would come on then if it were an ecu related issue?
