Bilstein Question

Recommended Posts

When I bough my car it had Spax shocks and 50mm (at a guess) springs on it. This combination is great on smooth roads, but most roads are not smooth things get interesting. Also given my advancing years I want more comfort.

In order to get comfort I took advice from Miles and was recommended standard shocks from Pug, but given my lack of confidence in the local parts department I decided not go this route. So this leaves Bilstein adjustables and on to the question.

I am going to fit Skip Brown road speed springs which have a 25mm drop, to match these springs do I go for Bilstein B6s or B8s?

I have the Bilstein Sport shocks (Challenge Spec) with the SBC Roadspeed springs. Not sure of the Bilstein model number, although B6 sounds familiar.

Incidentally, won't Bilstein adjustables run the narrow springs rendering the SBC ones non-compatible?

the b6 and b8 kits are not adjustable. only the pss kits are adjustable, and they don't make them for the 205

i think b6 is sprintline and b8 is challenge spec, but don't quote me on that.

B6 - Sportline

B8 - Sprintline

According to bilstein.de online catalog, there is no B8 series damper for 205.

I haven't read once here about fitting Sprintline B8, so where is the catch?

I think the B6 is very good on a road car.

The B6's must be the Streetline replacement, My books been placed in a safe place which I;ve still to find,

As said the B8's are the Sprintline, the challenge spec doesn't really have a B number.

The streetline front's work well on good spring's for comfort (as a 205 can get) but the rear's avoid them at any cost, But I;ve yet to try this is the 306 Streetline rear damper which get's fair reviews and is a direct fit to the 205 beam.

Why, what's wrong with B6 rears?

Whats right with them?. Do a search on the forum on rears and you'll get an overall consensus, I had them on my 205 and they are a little on the soft side, compared to standard but the fronts are OK. Put new standard shocks on the rear and the car was far more stable.

Have a search, especially a post that Sime's made a few years ago. They are just plain dangerous in my eye's with being far too soft, Id say even softer than a 1.1 205 std dampers with 100k on them, I made the comment to Simes at the time his rear Dampers where shot, To my surprise he told me they where new but they soon got changed

Haven't done a search prior to asking because B6 aren't really in my focus of interest, just got carried away by your comments guys! No harm done. ;)

This B6 rears situation must be a design fault IMHO.

Mate had the same problem with brand new twin tube Bilstein rears on his 206GTI, they refused to work properly because of near horizontal operating angle.

Sprintline or koni adjustable up front and std on the rear. Some good used 1.9 gti dampers on the back will be fine or some 306 gti ones. Be wary of buying new oe shocks because the supplier is often not pug

Agree 100% ;)

I'm currently inbetween suspension kits, i have avos on the rear, and streetlines on the front. Need to save for the sprintlines, as they seem a good alround bolt on package.
