Rear Disks Rubbing

With the handbrake released, is there still supposed to be some contact with the pads?

My wheels can be rotated by hand easily enough with the handbrake off, but the pads rub enough that you can hear the contact quite loudly when driving slowly with the window down.

Just wondering if perhaps the pistons are a bit sticky or if the automatic handbrake adjuster needs adjusting or is sticky.

probably either a sticking handbrake arm or sticking piston

check that the h'brake arm is pulled back as far a poss and that it moves freely - if it doesn't, you'll have to take the boot off and re-grease it

checking the piston is a pads out job really - just need to check that you can wind the piston in freely. if this is the problem, you can carefully pull the seal back and spray lube in there - wind in, pump out, wind in, pump out etc until it's free

hth

ed. some contact is normal - providing they feel fairly free, i wouldn't worry
