matty_gti 20 Posted March 10, 2007 hi all, ive just bought a 1992 1.6 GTi and theres one or two things i cant quit put my finger on. When driving at about 30+ and i so happen to hit a little bump of go over somthing in the road the car will suddenly and sharply dive to the left or right and then back again with a loud clonk!, taking my hands on the wheel with it. I have to try my best to keep it in a straight line!!. It allso really clunks n pulls the steering when doing 60 in 5th and i push the pedal to the floor the car will sharply pull to the left/right while theres me trying to keep it straight!, it allso does this when letting off the throttle at these speeds. Also....i can have the car on full lock to one side and slowly reverse, it will make one clonk and then an even louder clonk about 2 seconds after that while still reversing as if somthing is buckaling!. Any ideas as id really like it sorted so i can drive it.....Saftly!!! ThAnKs Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I was just wondering if any one had more of a deffinate answer . I dont think its the rack because theres no play in it, i think its somthing else that 'pops' or 'clonks' or somthing and moves therefore quickly snapping the car to one side?? After replacing the bushes which lasted about 3 month it developed a knocking and a pull again, done the usual checks for the ball joints with no play I ruled them out, then a few weeks later after being really peeeed with it I removed the wishbones only to find the nylon cap that sits below the ball joint below the rubber boot on the ball joint had snapped. I removed the two front wheels and then noticed the front bushes looking a little old. When i wiggled the wish bones i could actually pull the front of the wishbone on the d.side about a 1 cm towads me and back again. i then checked the pass.side and it isnt as bad. travill 0 Posted March 11, 2007 (edited) If the ball joints are ok which they usually are then just pop down to your friendly peugeot dealer armed with this number 3599 07 only about £15 plus Vat. This has 4 bushes enough to do both sides and some new bolts and washers. Take these and your old wishbones to a local garage and i'm sure they will press the old ones out and new ones in for a little cash.
