futura 3 Posted March 10, 2007 After replacing all break pipes, rear discs and pads, the MC and bleeding the system multiple times (1.5L of fluid), I still have the same issues. I have had this problem ever since I bought the car and firstly thought that replacing the front brake discs and pads along with a bleed would have sorted the problems but it didn't. Basically when Ipress the brake pedal, the first centimeter of travel has no effect what so ever on the brakes. Then it starts braking but it doesn't bite at all (front discs and pads were replaced 3 years ago but pads are still ok) and if I really stand on the pedal the wheels will lock. When I drive modern cars, I send my passengers in the windscreen because I am so used to braking that hard on the 205. The servo is ok too as I have tested it as mentioned on this forum. So I am thinking that the servo pin is not in contact with the MC right at the start of the pedal travel, but then what would cause the brakes not to bite hard enough? DaveK 0 Posted March 10, 2007 (edited) brake calipers maybe? is it really bad to live with? Edited March 10, 2007 by DaveK
futura 3 Posted March 10, 2007 It's a pain to drive, there's just no confidence in the brakes. They should really be responsive and it's not safe in emergency situations. What exactly could be wrong with the calipers? I don't think they are seized.
luggy 13 Posted March 10, 2007 What about the compensator/s? I noticed my 205 when braking, the weight didnt feel as if it was being transfered to the front and offside front wasnt locking up, it didn't give me much confidence if I had to brake in anger. Tested it and noticed rear offside wheel was locking up but not the front, OSR compensator changed problem sorted.
futura 3 Posted March 10, 2007 they might be the culprits as i didn't replace them. though when i brake hard both front wheels lock
luggy 13 Posted March 11, 2007 If both your front wheels are locking up then I doubt its your compensators. You can replace them but they're not cheap. What sort of condition is the vaccum pipe from MC to intake manifold? check it for leaks. How are you bleeding the brakes? are you doing the 2 man method and starting at wheel OSR, NSF, NSR and OSF. The reason I ask is because when I did some work on the braking system it took 3 attempts to get all the air out of the system.
futura 3 Posted March 18, 2007 The pipe from MC to intake manifold seems fine, didn't find any leak. I think the servo pin is not set up properly and it doesn't push the MC until 1cm of pedal travel. How can I set it up in practice, will taing the MC off be enough to have access to it?
