Longun 1 Posted March 10, 2007 I've got fed up of the oil all over the engine after fitting carbs as I left the cap open to atmosphere. If I fit a catch tank (coke bottle) do I still need a breather? I've read a few search results and one says yes and another says no as the catch tank does the job of a breather.
PsychoSimon 0 Posted March 10, 2007 (edited) providing the pipe into your coke bottle isnt tight into the top, ie it won't build up any pressure you will be fine Edited March 10, 2007 by PsychoSimon
phatgti 0 Posted March 11, 2007 But if the catch tank is sealed then it wont breathe. Put a tiny filter at the top of the catch tank and all will be fine. Will you put a oil return pipe back to the block or just empty it reguarly?
Longun 1 Posted March 12, 2007 Empty for now. Can I just feed it back into the filler route? The bottle has a gap where the pipe drops in so is breathing ok. Cheers both
CaM 0 Posted March 13, 2007 just empty it.... i get more condensation in mine than anything else. very little though. that said, i only drive the car every couple of weeks if that. I'd run with a proper catch tank too. coke bottle will be a pain in the arse
tom_m 0 Posted March 13, 2007 my vittel bottle is still working fine, not had to empty it yet, but whats in it i wouldn't want going back into the sump
phatgti 0 Posted March 14, 2007 If it's budget you want then water bottle is fine. Make sure the pipe is plenty inside the neck, you don't want it pulling out and spraying everything.
