Oil Catch Tank Question?

Recommended Posts

Longun

I've got fed up of the oil all over the engine after fitting carbs as I left the cap open to atmosphere. If I fit a catch tank (coke bottle) do I still need a breather? I've read a few search results and one says yes and another says no as the catch tank does the job of a breather.

providing the pipe into your coke bottle isnt tight into the top, ie it won't build up any pressure you will be fine

But if the catch tank is sealed then it wont breathe.

Put a tiny filter at the top of the catch tank and all will be fine.

Will you put a oil return pipe back to the block or just empty it reguarly?

Empty for now. Can I just feed it back into the filler route?

The bottle has a gap where the pipe drops in so is breathing ok.

Cheers both :o

just empty it.... i get more condensation in mine than anything else. very little though. that said, i only drive the car every couple of weeks if that.

I'd run with a proper catch tank too. coke bottle will be a pain in the arse

If it's budget you want then water bottle is fine.

Make sure the pipe is plenty inside the neck, you don't want it pulling out and spraying everything.
