Possible Contaminated Fuel In The Mi16

Recommended Posts

Guest rich1977

right then after 5 weeks of hunting down why my mi wouldnt go past 5k rpm we found it was the dizzy afterall, but atm the car will not start full stop she aint even trying we have fuel, i have good spark and she has had new everything ignition side now problem started before we changed the dissy I filled up at bp and after around 5 miles she wouldnt idle and would just cut out and after 20 miles she droped onto 3 cylinders tehn after 30 miles just on my drive she died and has never started since. Ive droped the plugs out and tried new ones but no difference but both are coated in what looks like black silicone is it possible I have a fuel propblem or could it be something else.

the car is a 205 mi16 on carbs and 8v ignition

bp wasnt effected by the contaminated fuels so doubt its this silicon problem. You sure its not just over fueling?

yep as ive spent nearly 5 hours adjusting fuel pressure and fueling to try and get her to fire and nothings happening

is the firing order right and timed up right or is this something that has not been altered?

You could try pumping the fuel out of the system and putting fresh in there I suppose. I know it sounds mad but you did use petrol didnt you? I know BP have a habit of using different coloured handles to other people and it is possible to select derv instead of ultimate.

if its on carbs the contaminated petrol wont affect the running as there isnt a Lambda in there to be damaged, unless its diesel :)

tried a compression test? how fat a spark are you getting?

As I understand it, the only thing the silicone contaminated petrol will upset is the Lambda sensor and maybe the cat. I don't recall the Mi16 having either device.

You'll see a white residue if you burn petrol on a driveway. This is simply where the heat of combustion has burned all the small debris present.

Makes one wonder what happened to all the contaminated petrol. They ought to have sold it off to all of us running non-cat cars cheaply. I'll wager they have not just thrown it away though, somehow it'll be come back into circulation.

I've got about 150 litres of it in my garden!

(thought it a bit risky to keep it in the garage) :D

Mate works for mercedes and they do just throw it away, he has been bringing it all home instead though)

ITS ALIVEEEEEEEE!!!!!!.

got her to fire around a hour ago was a fueling problem before the regs was loads flowing through after the regs it was just dripping out after around 5 secs, droped the fuel regs off gave them a good clean and put them back together and back on and it fired first time.

one question though on the first reg (when using twin set up with the filter kings) does the flow from the pump go on the first nipple and return underneath? as previous owner had it set up the other way round and i get sod all fuel through via this set up.

the other problem ive got is number 3 cylinder isnt firing so its only running on 3 if i have no spark should the revs still dip if i put my hand over the intake of that cylinders carb? as nothing happens when i do this the other 3 suck the parm of my hand and revs dive number 3 does nothing just covers me hand in fuel if i rev it (as if its spitting back without spark

fireing order is correct with 1342 starting from flywheel and number 1 starting at top left on the cap. is this a compression problem or just becuase it aint sparking?
