Weird Ticking Noise - Remedy Please!

Hello chaps.

 

I’m working on getting my 1.6 Gti running. Since cleaning out the SAD and associated hoses, she is ticking over much better from cold.

She is still only firing on 3 cylinders for the first 45 seconds though. Any else had this problem? Any remedies?

 

The big problem arising a few days ago is that she won’t start! I suspect a fueling problem. I hear the fuel pump engage as usual but there is an odd ticking sound when I turn the key (not to start position, just to ignition) and although I can’t locate the source exactly, I can feel the vibration of the ticking when I hold the fuel pipes running to the fuel rail.

Any one else had this weird ticking noise?

1) No fix that I'm aware of. My fully rebuilt engine with refurbed injectors does exactly the same.

 

2) Probably the starter solenoid. It is a very common problem can be the starter itself and/or poor wiring to the starter from teh ignition and/or the ignition barrel itself. Do a search on starter problems and you should throw up loads of hits.

not sure if this would have anything to do with it but my gti broke down the other day and when i was trying to start it it was just ticking.

 

all it turned out to be was the nut had come loose that holds the earth onto the alternator. so in the end just a bad earth

The starter turns fine, it just wont burst into life.

The ticking noise is when the key is turned to ignition(before the final little turn to fire the starter motor) Odd?

Tachy relay?

 

Seems to be the cause of a lot of odd problems (ie the alarm on my 1.6 as it thought the fuel pump was on)
