Mi16 Oil Pessure Gauge Drops Fully Off Above 4.5k..ish

Recommended Posts

Guest mick925

i fitted an mi16 engine to my 205 around 6 months ago, i fully rebuilt the engine (the cranks been reground and new shells fitted), but the oil pressure never went above 4bar, this didnt worry me too much as the gauges are apparently not very accurate, then just recently i realised that above 4.5 5k the gauge dropped right to the bottom, its probably done it since the engine was fitted but above 4k i prefer to keep my eyes on the road :D

i changed the guage a week or so ago and its still the same,

i expect the crank bearings are ok and the oil pump was renewed too,

i can only think of the pressure switch being faulty, the wiring i did myself and im pretty sure that should be fine, and the crank pulley was torqued properly with locktite too

when the guage drops to the bottom the stop light doesnt come on, it just drops everytime its revved high :)

The stop light comes on somewhere around 0.5 bar, which is prettly low. If the pressure really drops, then this is probably due to a clogged inlet tube filter on the oil pump (sorry, dont know its name in sweden), the thing which does coarse filtering of the oil that enters the pump.

I had exactly the same problem on my Mi16 (that was freshly rebuilt too)

I changed the pressure switch for a known good 2nd hand one and it was fine :)

It's a common problem mate so I wouldn't worry about it.

As Dino says replace the switch and sender unit should solve the problem.

had this exact problem loads of time, replace the sender and it works for a bit then dies again after a few months!

I'll be using a Mechanical oil pressure guage on my new car!
