zilog 0 Posted March 5, 2007 I have a spare Bosch MTR 01 ignition module (205 GTI). I want to use it to enhance the spark of my father's Austin Healey which uses points, and thus need all information I can get on this module - pinout, wiring, principle of operation, voltage levels etc. Please help! /Daniel
Guest hassan Posted November 7, 2007 I have a spare Bosch MTR 01 ignition module (205 GTI). petert 587 Posted November 7, 2007 The MTR01 is what's called a "dumb" ignitor. ie you need to specify the dwell time (saturation time) for the coil being used. The best advice I can give you, is to use an "intelligent" ignitor, such as the Bosch 008 (or equivalent). This type of ignitor will automatically determine the saturation time, regardless of the coil being used, or the input switching time. Intelligent ignitors were typically used with vane type distributors in the 1980's, which used a hall effect switch inside the distributor, but still had mechanical advance systems. You can still use points to fire an intelligent ignitor if desired. A good source of 008 ignitors is Volvos if you choose not to buy new.
petert 587 Posted November 7, 2007 You may find this a useful resource: http://www.hueco.com/assets/PDF/MM_Katalog04.pdf I was specifically referring to the Bosch 1227022008. The Hueco equivalent is 138002. Alternatively, you could buy a new Bosch BIM137. However, they run a lot hotter and require a decent heatsink.
