Differing Opinions Between German/english Dealer For 1st Oil Change

Recommended Posts

feb

I bought a '07 WRX from Germany a couple of weeks ago and have covered 1600 km so far. The german dealer told me not to change the oil for the first 15.000 km as it's a special oil for the first drive and Subaru doesn't want you to change the oil within the 1st 15.000 km.

I have phoned the UK dealer who told me that they do the first oil change at 1k miles.

Who should I trust?! I don't like the idea of a 15k km oil change interval unless Subaru uses a special long life oil despite being mentioned in the service book that the first oil change is due at 15k km!

Thanks

P.S. My friend who bought a mini and also has 15k km oil change intervals, the dealer gave him 1lt of Castrol SL04 (or sth similar) long life oil in case he needed to top up. The german Subaru manual mentions 5W-30 as the recommended oil but nothing specific/long life oil to use

theres no such thing as special oil. The more regularly you change the engine oil the happier the engine

Yep, special oil is bollox.

Oil change after 1k (as you should be running the engine in) and then every 4.5k thereafter if your anal like me, or just follow Subaru UK instructions whatever they may be.

Thanks guys. That's what I thought too, the earlier I change it the better as in all other cars I have owned. I just needed some reassurance.

The 'special' he was referring to could be a crap thin mineral one for running in use(?) but it wouldn't make sense to leave it for 15k km. It doesn't take 15k km to run in the engine anyway!

Sure he didn't mean 1500km as that is 932 miles

Errrm - special oil may be running in oil. Didn't think modern engines used it but it certainly is "special".

Recommended on my engine for 500 miles so 1k miles doesn't sound unreasonable. 15,000 km sounds odd for running in oil though.
