matty_gti 20 Posted March 3, 2007 I really need a quick answer please...as my engine is currently hanging half in my car What are the size of these bolts and what torque are they?, there the three engine mount bolts that go into the block and head...... http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j218/mat...ti/DSC00630.jpg On a not so serious note What does 'LH' and 'RH nut' mean in the haynes book?..and which side is left and which side is right?, drivers or passengers?... And what torque is the nylon nut for the stub on the gearbox that goes threw the mount? ThAnKs
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 3, 2007 http://www.stuartmcguire.co.uk/pug/GB/205F/1/18A20A.HTM Items 9b & 9c. If you've got a Haynes all the torque figures are listed that you need. The bolts for the R/H mounting in your picture are M10 so 45Nm / 33lbft but there are two different lengths, the longer one comes through the mount into the front of the block needs to be the longer bolt. At a guess I'd say the r/h & l/h nuts are the ones on the upper engine mount at the drivers side as you look at the engine. There are two nuts nearer the chassis mount & one at the other end. The gearbox mounting stud nut torque is listed in the transmission section & should be 34Nm / 25lbft. Graham.
matty_gti 20 Posted March 3, 2007 Thank you very much...however when doing up the rear bolt out of the three (the one that goes into the head) it just wouldnt torque up , its just got less stiff...i know that the part of the ally surrounding the bolt has sheard off in the past and has been stuck back on with what looks like liquid metal so i think ive threaded the whole. Do you think this will be a major problem?. And where do you get all those pictures from that display all the exploded parts?. ThAnKs
DaveK 0 Posted March 3, 2007 do you guys always torque bolts like these? i tend to just use a normal ratchet and tighten them like all others

Do you think this will be a major problem?.Yes, it a main support of the engine, I'd get another head rather than use the one you have. If its only been rebuilt with liquid metal i doubt it would be strong enough to use like that. And where do you get all those pictures from that display all the exploded parts?. Miami Stu's parts cd sitedo you guys always torque bolts like these? i tend to just use a normal ratchet and tighten them like all others Not usually, I check what torque it should be but just use the built-in torque wrench in my arm.
