Rear Brake Pads

Recommended Posts

Just stripped and replaced the rear pads on the 205 and can't for the life of me remember which way up the clips etc should be.

As it was the drivers side had the springs to the top, wedge at the bottom. Passenger side the opposite. Is this correct? :(

I've always seen the clips at the top and the wedge at the bottom on both sides.

MAKE SURE THE WEDGE IS THE RIGHT WAY AROUND.

Otherwise the caliper is liable to spit out a pad :D:P

What about base model front calipers?

I think the ones on mine are wedge at the top, clips at the bottom?

It's a long time since I've fitted the proper clips but those in that picture don't look like there fitted properly?? aren't they supposed to be slotted down more at the top?

I use a bit of twistsed welding wire hehe

They will be & thats how they should be on the front.

Thats how they are on my car, they should only be under the pads at the inner end. (nearer the piston.) I've wirelocked the clip the goes through the wedfge to prvent it falling out & having a sudden long pedal moment on track or road.

The springs should be either top or bottom depending on the caliper location as when the brakes are applied they allow the pads to move slightly in the direction of the wheel rotation, hence spring at the bottom at the front & top on the rears.
