dodsworth_gti 11 Posted March 2, 2007 hi,i have a 205 gti mi16,and i am haveing trouble with it,im curently awaiting on some news about a group n engine mount for it,but i am experianceing a clunking noise when im setting off.ive checked everything to see if there is any play any where and i cant find any anywhere so far lol,the only thing im am thinking is the top rubbers on the struts, would this cause a clunking??? when the car is on axle stands i can push the top of the strut with my finger and move it about 1mm all round if not a little bit more.is this right on a 205 gti?? any help would be great thanks ben

Thats sounds normal iirc (its a while since I had a car without group n strut top rubbers though ) I don't think they would cause a clunking though. How have you re-angled the exhaust & manifold? Ccould it be catching somehwere. Worst one I had was the backbox catching the torsion bar on thebeam after an engine swap. Graham.
dodsworth_gti 11 Posted March 3, 2007 it was done when i bought the car,and its only just started has the clunking,as far as im aware, the engine has been fitted properly, seems like it any way,the clunking is definatly coming from the front of the car,can sometime's feel it but i cant put a name to where it is lol
