mi16nut 0 Posted March 1, 2007 I've decided to ditch the 100db Magnex & go for a standard-type exhaust as I can't hack the noise. Can anyone recommend a quality brand please? Searches bring up Arvin, Timax & Bosal, which from what I gather may all be made by the same people. I don't want the cheap boomy, resonating sound, but will be happy with a bit of noise when pushing on. Thanks, Mark.
welshpug 1,657 Posted March 1, 2007 arvin and timax are the same group, not sure about bosal, but IIRC bosal dont do the 2 part downpipes.
mi16nut 0 Posted March 1, 2007 Cheers. I don't need a downpipe (until the fitter knackers it taking off the middle section). Anyone with experience of a standard, but not original 2 box system?
welshpug 1,657 Posted March 1, 2007 yep, this is an euroflow unit on my 309, sounds a little rough as its been sat for a while but you get a general idea of what its like. (there is an induction kit on there)

Ahl 4 Posted March 2, 2007 Get the Arvin-Mettler stamped one. The other companies may also be under the same umbrella group, but the exhausts are (or were) different. The Arvin ones are well made, well designed (different to the others), and give a nice exhaust note, not too loud, but nice when booting it.
luggy 13 Posted March 2, 2007 (edited) Daily driver 8 valver, Ive got a 2 piece Bosal on mine, been on the car nearly 2 years and not that much rust. Ive had people ask what system Ive got on it and they look suprised when I tell them it standard. Pretty quiet around town but it sounds good between 3 and 4 k when accelerating and fine on long journeys at 75-80. Prior to that had a full stainless steel system which was noisy as feck. I've recently swapped mine back to a standard system (Arvin) & its a better sound than I remembered for a standard system when the rev's build up so I'm very happy with it, matched to an Arvin TD backbox. (Also means I can have more fun on the way home from nights without the exhaust waking the surrounding valley). Graham.
mi16nut 0 Posted March 3, 2007 Thanks for the replies. Went to get it fitted today (Arvin-Mettler branded), but because my front pipe has been cut to fit the magnex, it couldn't be done. I'll have to go back when they've got the 2 piece including the front pipe.
