Clutch Problems I Need Help

Recommended Posts

well iv been having problems with my gearbox/clutch for weeks now and im ready to jack it in as my patience has well and trully run out :( its an ally block mi 16 with a be3 1.6 gearbox my troubles began when the gearbox bolts went m.i.a a week after i bought it and i suspected something was up but kept putting off looking as it was always crap weather so anyway the clutch exploded i changed it everything was ok except it vibrated really badly on the left hand side so i changed the d/shafts with oe quality ones and it was still there and the g/box had started coming loose again so i thrd locked them in to be safe but it was still coming loose and even snapped the bolt under the starter!!! so a local company said the diff was gone so i sourced another g/box albeit a be1 and converted it all over but it was still vibrating although the g box was staying put this time ^_^ so now im at the stage where iv found a be3 g/box have fitted it new clutch cable new clutch and release baring but now the clutch pedal isnt springing back as it should ie it feels dead and when i do press the clutch in its fowling the battery tray is this box a 3 legged donkey  anyway iv probably bamboozled you all as im truly stuck so any suggestions or tips throw them at me!!!

sounds to me like the clutch plate is in backwards.

As for vibrations check the flywheel isnt warped.

Also check the flywheel bolts aren't loose. It happens!

sorry not sure if my ramblings were clear but the clutch was working fine on the be1 g/box but when i changed back to the be3 it wouldnt return :( and i am aware that the release bearings are different and the clutch cable and pedal (tbh if i had known that when i started i would of hung of til a be3 came along :) ) thats why its really pissing me off im going to try another box on and see what like it is......fingers and everything else crossed...oh and the clutch of an mi-16 wouldnt fit i had to use a 195mm clutch so does that mean the flywheel is the wrong one for the engine?

yes sounds like the wrong flywheel.

yes clutch bolts have been known to come loose, but generally when this happens the pedal rises big time and the clutch may slip.

unfortunatly speaking from experience, i pulled a clutch off with 1 bolt tight and 2 loose and no sign of the other 3
