Cambelt Tensioners

Recommended Posts

joelpsmith

I'm going to be changing my cambelt over the weekend, and wondered if it is necessary to replace the tensioner also.

I have searched the forums but only found topics relating to the spring type tensioner.

I've got a '94 L reg, so i'm pretty sure its going to be the later offset roller tensioner.

Is it going to be worth changing. I can only get one from GSF and i'm not sure if the quality is any good or if this type wear out like the earlier spring ones do.

Ideally replace it at the same time as the cambelt, unless you know that it's been done recently. If it's the original engine then it will probably be the escentric tensioner and the later 114 tooth cambelt, but worth checking before ordering anything.

Thanks Anthony.

Does anyone have any experience with the GSF tensioners.

I know some of their stuff doesn't last too long, and this is a fairly critical part.

Never had a problem with GSF tensioners in the past, although I know for Mi16's a genuine Peugeot tensioner is only a few pound more so I generally go down that route these days for peace of mind.
