Engine Makes Car Bounce

Recommended Posts

Kennyb

Hi guys hope your all well.

Ok i changed all the clutch and GB oil, oil filter and engine oil, plugs etc now..... when im at say 5 1/2 revs in second or 3rd and let off the engine seems to bounce its way back down... like throttle is bouncing???? Tried a search but cant find anything. :o

Also (may have something to do with it????) when i start the car from cold its very ticky until about 30 secs then it runs smooth as a very smooth nut (although since i did the oil change i've noticed a very fait tick when running warm, but that could be me and my paranoia :) )

What you guys rek?

Cheers

could be worn engine mounts?

if its an 8v the tappets are shimmed, so short of taking the cam out and faffing with the shims which s fiddly to say the least, your gonna haveto put up with the ticking i'm afraid

The ticking is more likely to be a blowing exhaust manifold, usually due to a crack developing between #1 & #2 cylinder webs on the manifold.

No idea on the rev bouncing though.

ticking isn't always tappets, its often caused by a crack or two in the manifold.

edit: waaaaaay too slow

Mounts are fine they were changed when the engine came out for a rebuild bout 7000 miles ago. I'll check the manifold for the tickin problem .

Anyone have any more ideas about the throttle bounce then?

when you say it bounces down from high revs in gear is this with clutch pressed, IE coasting or is it still engaged and engine braking?

If its engine braking then it could be the clutch slipping allowing the revs to drop off quicker than speed then catching up again. If its coasting it may possibly be a vaccuum issue, dodgy TPS (wouldnt explain the gears though) or clogged air, filter sticky afm flap.

All mounts have been done including bottom. Its with clutch off and in gear. Cant really see it slipping cos its a brand new valeo one only been on 3 wks.

Could be AFM maybe then??? not sure at all looks like its gonna have to be, check everything until i find it, time B)

Cheers guys

O yeah theres no cracks in my manifold so dunno what the tickin is :)
