Problem Removing Gearbox

Recommended Posts

ini

I am having trouble removing a BE3 box.

The bottom bolt on the engine side is a allen type, and the interior hole has rounded.

Any ideas on how to remove or loosen this bolt?

Maybe hemmer A good quality torx bit into the center and maybe heat the bolt with a little blow torch, Not a good thing to happen. All the best

Only way I've ever got over this is to use a BIG hammer and cold-chisel.cut a groove in the side of the bolt with the chisel at 90degrees and then use that groove to beat the bolt in the right direction- hoping none of the engine castings bust. . A last-ditch, or tantrum-induced method, but worked ok for me.A right B1tch of a position to get to without a ramp, too. Why the fcuk pug made those bolts so bl@@dy soft????

use some blue point rounded nut removers! they hammer over the bolt head and grip it as u undo, worth there weight in gold!

Is there enough room? IIRC the recess tapers to barely larger than the bolt head. If there's room I should get some!

another idea would be to drill the head off, then when the gearbox is off use some pliers or mole grips to get the remaing bolt out?

Steve is right, there isn't enough space to get anything over the bolt head. The square washer under the bolt head is around the size of the slot & not much less.

I think the torx idea is the best one to try first, it thats fails then steve chisel idea is the next way. They aren't usually that tight (last one i did was half undone :) ) so hopefully only one or two goes with a chisel will get it loose enough to turn. A bit*h to get at though using any method. :o

Graham.
