lagonda 42 Posted February 27, 2007 Just bought one of these from Autofive, £13 odd for a bit of bent tin! This is at least the 4th one fitted to my car, obviously they all rust where they're stupidly bolted to the manifold. So ... has anyone found a way of preserving these?! Would interposing a brass washer between the bracket & the manifold help?

jim21070 2 Posted February 27, 2007 I made an aluminium bracket to go from the airbox to a vacant threaded hole on the cylinder head. It has worked a treat for the past two years on both mine and another GTi.
lagonda 42 Posted February 27, 2007 Thanks guys, aluminium bracket sounds like a good idea for the 5th one. These brackets are catching up on the driving lights, the ones on the car are the 6th (yes sixth) set it's had since new ... & they're rusty as hell.
Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted February 27, 2007 On 2 GTis I've never had to change one. You sure the stuff you are getting isn't crap or there is some other reason for breaking so many? Rob
Grim.Badger 15 Posted February 27, 2007 Powder coat the bugger? I thought they were powder coated as standard The one in front of me seems to have some sort of plasticy coating (presumably powder coat) and still has the original Peugeot parts sticker attached. It's absolutely solid and rust free too.
lagonda 42 Posted February 28, 2007 Should have said, this is the first I've bought for the car, others I've seen in the service history.
