Water Pump Life Span

What's the typical life span of the 205 GTi water pump?

I've checked at Peugeot and their water pumps (Part number 1201 63) is £69.63 :D A big no to my idea of getting an O.E. one, I only just spent more on my engine

I'll get a GSF one if I need to but seeing as my old one is only about 30k old does it really need replacing?

30k miles is nothing for a geniune (or OE quality) waterpump, although some cheap pattern ones are a bit suspect and I've seen them fail in less than 5k miles before now...

Well I need to check with the last owner but I'm sure he said that he'd changed it when the head gasket went last time (about 30k miles ago). Hopefully he used a good quality one.

The water pump in mine was the original one (date code 1989) and that had done 160,000 miles, no leaks or problems. Only changed it on the (good) advice that it's such an ar.e to get to otherwise that it's best to change it with the cam belt & tensioner. Bought mine from QEP, a lot less than £60. Made by "Firstline". Matt at QEP says he uses them in all his rebuilds & has never had a problem with them.
