DaveW 6 Posted February 26, 2007 I got these VTR steelies just wondering the best way of doing this, i want to paint them white but its quite different to painting a speedline as these rust! So lots of sanding to get rid of rust then treat it? and zinc primer etc?

johnnyboy666 195 1 Cars Posted February 26, 2007 get some of that stuff that takes it back to bare metal, u get get it in halfrauds for about £10 a tub then when its back to the metal get some hammerite on it, or some metal primer then some hammerite and even some laquer if u fancy it cheap as chips and u can be finnished in a day ive just done my speedlines in white (but i used nitromorse instead of the back to bare metal stuff cos they dont rust )

brianthemagical 1 Posted March 4, 2007 use a wire brush on a drill or angle grinder to get the paint off then some rust killer/inhibiter primer then just paint it normaly
christopher 5 1 Cars Posted March 8, 2007 I wirebrushed mine down to metal and sprayed with multiple layers of hammerite. It was rusting again in 6 months to a year.
Ahl 4 Posted March 9, 2007 Wirebrushes can often smooth over the rust. You're better using a proper rust removing wheel or shotblast etc.
Rippthrough 98 Posted March 9, 2007 Decent acid etch primer underneath would help.
