acox99 74 1 Cars Posted February 25, 2007 right its getting worse, it isnt really quite as easy as plug and play, we are getting no fuel or spark from the engine, it cranks fine, and we are pretty stumped......can anyone help
acox99 74 1 Cars Posted February 25, 2007 What colour is that plug? i have one grey three pin plug which is near the crank sensor, which has a 12v and 2v feed and i cant work out where it goes? and there is the little orange engine light on the dash, is that because of a fault? or does that stay on until the engine starts? also the fuel pump isn't priming? any thoughts? welshpug 1,657 Posted February 25, 2007 brown and black on mine, not all management systems prime.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted February 25, 2007 Locked ecu? Have you got ignition switched power to the coilpack or to fuel pump from the double injection relay? Graham.
smighall 1 Posted February 25, 2007 Are you using the xu10j4 or xu10j4rs engine? On the RS there is a dual relay that controls the fuel and spark that is normally attached to the back of the ecu box. If this relay fails then you will get neither fuel or spark. I'm not 100% this relay is on the xu10j4 engine but is worth a look. Also make sure you are getting 12v to either pin 5 or 8 can't remember off the top of my head, when the ignition is on.
smighall 1 Posted February 25, 2007 Locked ecu? Have you got ignition switched power to the coilpack or to fuel pump from the double injection relay? Graham. I thought the immobiliser only stop fuel or spark, not both?
acox99 74 1 Cars Posted February 25, 2007 the immobiliser stops the starter, you turn the key and nothing, i checked that, it is the xu10j4. It doesn't have a coil pack its the one with a coil on each plug, no power to any of the connection pins when not turning over, not sure if thats right? really stumped by it. anyone know about the light? does it go off when the engine starts? is it telling me that there is something wrong? pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted February 25, 2007 I thought the immobiliser only stop fuel or spark, not both?I wasn't suggesting a locked ecu could cause stop both but if the XU10J4 is on MP3.2 (405's are afaik) then it will have the brown double injection relay which should have a direct connection to the battery distribution block at pin 8, 11 & 14 with the ecu getting power directly to pin 18. The coilpacks are fed from this relay, pin 1 which is internally linked with pin 9 (fuel pump) with an ignition switched feed to pin 2 closing these connections internally. Graham. acox99 74 1 Cars Posted February 27, 2007 Right having real problems with this i really cannot find a thing, even the diagnostics wont work on it, it wont communicate with the ecu. Does anyone have any wiring diagrams so that i can follow back and check that eveything is in the right place and working? Or if anyone has pictures of plugs on the loom and where bit are that could cause this it would be really helpful, trying to get it done for the 11th but its not looking good It the 2l ph2 engine by the way. acox99 74 1 Cars Posted February 27, 2007 Right, one problem solved. 2 Plugs the wrong way around so it now starts but there is a lot of rattling from the top end, is this normal for the run in period or is there something up? Cheers Alan
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted February 28, 2007 If the engine has been fully rebuilt it is normal for the hydraullic tappets to be very noisey until they fill with oil & that can take a while. Even if its been stood for a few months they can eventually drain so its noisey until the store fills up again. Hopefully thats all it is for you. Graham. Cheers Graham, do they get sticky after a while then they haven't been used for something like 6 months, how long would they be noisy for? Alan
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted February 28, 2007 They don't get sticky, just empty of oil afaik. They shouldn't take that long to quieten down but I've never had a car thats had a rebuilt 16v or one thats been stood long enough for them to drain. Someone that has rebuilt an Mi head shuld be able to give a better idea of how long it might last but I reckon its different for every rebuild. Graham.
