Plugin Performance Chips

Recommended Posts

Guest latestarter2

Ive noticed lots of "cheap" performance chips on eaby that kid the ecu that the air intake is cold and therefore bump up the fuel flow..They all seem to say "only for cars 1988 onwards".

Why is this? (i have an '85 1.6 gti)

can i use these chips?

Will it bugger anything up long term?

cheers

I and a few others, thanks guys :), getting rid of an over fuelling issue as it gives a poor running car. So to actively try and cause over fuelling through a 'chip' is not a good idea.

If your car is a '85 then I'd say fitting a later head and cam ('86 onwards) or going the whole way and 1.9 it.

^ they don't unfortunately.

imo a four branch manifold (eg. magnex) is about the only 'bolt on' bit that does anything

you're looking at (expensive) head work, cam, alternative induction, engine management etc etc to make any difference otherwise

Does a later spec head count as a bolt on part?

Cost less than a manifold aswell....

sorry - i was thinking generally

if the later head goes straight on and gives you the extra 10bhp, then that's got to make sense :(
