How Many Bhp Can I Expect?

Recommended Posts

Guest Megster

Well after months of huming and haaring and buying parts from far and wide my 205/Mi16 Sprint/ Hillclimb project is finally coming together with engine prep and possible installation this weekend.

Here's what I've got together for the assembly:

- Rebuilt 1905 alloy block Mi16 engine with:

new main bearings

new con rod bearings

new piston rings

honed liners

group A oil pump spring

baffled sump

skimmed and presure tested head

valve recut

valve seats recut

new valve guides

new valve stem seals

new head bolts

- lightened and balanced flywheel

- 1905 8v gearbox with 4:4 final drive and new Kaas LSD

- 4 into 2 into 1 exhaust manifold from Miles (well worth the money - highly recommended!)

- Twin 45 delortos through a TWM cast alloy inlet manifold

- solid Group A bottm engine mount from Constella

- delimited 1.9 ECU from Constella

Hopefuly it'll all go together ok this weekend and I can begin to run the new engine/box/LSD in before the dyno and first event of 2007 season in County Wexford.

What can I expect? Anything over 175bhp and I'm going to be to be highly delighted! I'm also looking forward to the 17% improvement in accelleration that the 4:4 should give.

Worries include the clutch - fast road LUK item as I just can't stretch to a Paddle cultch at the moment, and of course the dreaded oil starvation issue you hear so much about.

All in all, coversion will have cost about 2k. That's with the local garage and engineering company (my sponsors) doing a lot of work for nothing.

All the best - Alun

Doubt the clutch will be an issue, 205's aren't too heavy and it's designed to lug a 405 full of family and the wifes luggage a 205 is nothing.

I'll guess it shall go like a rocket, then run out of legs very fast

Miles

With Carb's on and a good engine, Circa 180bhp, I take that the TWM manifold has had allot of work as they don;t tend to line up that well on the ports, Clutch will be fine I used a OE one on my 200bhp Race car and when removed after a season it was like new still.

But why have you got a ECU if your on carb's? as you only need the ignition amp part for teh Dizzy and a simple relay for the Red Top pump.

Megster you are missing a trick with that spec mate.

A std mi16 on carbs but no ign ecu will make 180-185 depending on how much effort has gone into the ports and manifold.

What you need to up the anti somewhat is a set of cams and ign ecu now you will be closer to 200 bhp.

Swazy not clear as to what specs you have mate, but I would guess close to 180.

If you tell me what details exactly you need, is it then possible to calculate the bhp??

180 sounds already good to me :)

Thanks guys for the responses. We'll look into running without a ECU/wilder cams/verniers after we return from Ireland. Its all a bit of a rush to get it all plumbed in and run in before we leave!!! There's four of us in the Trident Engineering team and not a single car is ready!

Mk1 N/a YB at the painters after arching

My 205 half way through an engine conversion

Clio Cup having a cage fitted

Williams Clio at Hill Power having a new ECU remap etc...

And only four weeks to go.....

Regards - Alun
