foreigner 0 Posted February 23, 2007 I have strange problem. Steering is too light, i get sometimes it steers itself a bit. I checked for some loose parts in front but nothing at all. I don't know how to check if rack is ok? any ideas? Rear is bit interesting. I can move wheel about inch before i can feel resistance from suspension it's on both sides exactly the same. Is it rear shocks? bushes? or? please any help welcomed
zilog 0 Posted February 23, 2007 Regarding the rear suspension, do you have any free play in the rear axle? The free play feeling may come from a knackered cross member, loose sitting rear axle (the bolts that attach it to the boot sometimes come loose), or worn out bearings in the rear beam. My guesses are with the latter, do you have any free play in the sideways direction?
foreigner 0 Posted February 23, 2007 There is some freeplay, just checked it. what should i do then?
zilog 0 Posted February 23, 2007 There are many threads about rear beam rebuilding here, just search. No fun problem though.
foreigner 0 Posted February 24, 2007 how do i check that steering rack is ok?
hengti 2 Posted February 24, 2007 (edited) have you had the tracking checked? ed. you can check the rack by disconnecting the track rod ends from the hubs and running the rack through the length of its travel - you're just checking that it's smooth all the way through and that there's no play in it anywhere there are other things to check with the steering though if you've not already ruled out the tracking, i'd do that first Edited February 24, 2007 by hengti
