Vibration/pulsation Damper

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was reading through the BOSCH Motronic information manual thing, and came across the 'vibration/pulsation damper'.

I left it off when I transplanted the Mi16 into my 205. Do many people use it?

I guess at high rpm it does not do that much because the engine is consuming so much fuel.

I personally don't use it with no obvious ill-effect - a couple less fuel line joins to leak frankly...

I don't understand the theory behind needing one really. Ad if they get blocked they could fcuk up fuel pressure.

Does it make any difference that the 405 fuel pump is external?

Here is what BOSCH say:

Fuel filters 'should' stop them getting blocked up.

I can't see how external pump makes a difference. I think the BX has a pump in the tank, and I guess it also has a vibration damper for its Mi16 engine.

On the 405 Mi16 the damper is mounted in the supply fuel line, not how the Bosch quotation has it above.

I fitted it when I did my Mi16 conversion 6 years ago. But I have recently removed it when I made up new fuel lines and fitted a 405 fuel filter in a more convenient place. I've not run the car yet to see the difference, but to be honest I don't think I'll notice any difference, the XU9JA motor doesn't have one.

Also the BX16v has an external pump. And a tiny fuel filter for some reason.

Cheers all.

Looks like I'll not bother putting it on. I've been running the Mi without it for 2 years :)

When I was researching into the Mi conversion it seemed most people did not bother putting it on.

Thanks,

Higgy.
