H&r Springs ...

Recommended Posts

In a few months time I'll be looking at suspension for my 205 gti - currently starting an mi16 rebuild then conversion.

I'm fairly set on bilstein shocks - a friend of mine had them and were fantastic on his torneo (japanese version of the honda accord), much better than the konis he had before.

So I'm looking at the sprintline kit. It seems pretty decent value for money, but I've read (from here) that hte springs are a little sub par.

I can get H&R sports springs from the NZ distributor for a very reasonable price, and h&r are generally pretty good. However, as H&R do the springs for bilstein suspension kits, would these be the same as those on the sprintline kit? I can't find any details on the springs in the sprintline kit...

Also, how do the H&R springs compare to the Eibach springs that a number of people said were a decent upgrade with the sprintline shocks? Anyone tried both?

H&R part number/details are:

29605-1 Peugeot 205 Typ 20A, 20C, 20D, 741A, 741B, 741C incl. convertible

color green, lowering [mm] 40

The car will be primarily a road car, so any other suggestions with respect to what springs/shocks to get are useful.

Comments/suggestions are very much appreciated, being a uni student I don't have the cash to fork out for suspension and change it on a whim.

As far as I know, the springs that come with Bilsteins are "Ventura".

Never heard any issues at all with quality, and myself I swapped the springs on a Bilstein kit for Eibach thinking it would be better and found they were hugely mis-matched, and that the springs were too short and soft, allowing the shock to compress fully.

I'd go with the kit as it comes.

Ok, thanks for that. Interesting, I've always read/been told that H&R do the springs for the bilstein kits - perhaps it's only the PSS coilovers or whatever they're called.

I might get the h&rs anyway, as they're not that pricey ($200nz ... roughly 65 pounds - which is VERY cheap for any springs locally, if you don't drive a jap car you get murdered by local prices), and I can probably flog them off without making a loss if I decide I don't want them.
