Just Found A Nail In My Tyre!

Recommended Posts

SweetBadger

Arse buggery bollocks!! When swapping my A539s about to get one more trackday out of them I noticed a nice big nail sticking out of one.

If it's repairable is it going to be safe for track use? Also anyone know how much a puncture repair costs? If its going to be £20 I might aswell just buy a new tyre.

The tyre's at least half worn and will be nearly finished after another track day so will need replacing, but i'm about to go travelling for a year so don't want to fork out on a new tyre for it to just sit there for a year.

Any suggestions?

Cheers, Alex.

Is it in the centre of the tread?

it should only cost between £5-10 to get it repaired - had one plugged for 6 quid last year.

It's towards the outer edge but a good 1.5 inches in so should be ok to repair, that price sounds good to me.

Where did you get it repaired?

generally so long as its not within an inch of the sidewall and under 6mm dia it should be repairable and youll experience no probs with the repair. kwikfit are good for repairs if u take it on a sunday morning they normally put the repair money in the pocket and not through the till

Ahh, things are looking up! I'll head down to my local kwikfit tomorrow and see about getting it repaired. Cheers for the replies.

I took one to just tyres in my lunch a few months back and I had it done for free! We chatted about the car quite a bit so I guess the guy was just in a really good mood or something?!

I've had one done on my 205, I thought it was a bit pikey at first but I seeing as I had done all of 10 miles on my new Eagle F1's when I spotted the screw I decided to get it repaired rather than waste a good tyre.

It has worked really well so far although I have only really driven it to track days and a few sighting laps before switching to slicks as I don't really use the 205 on the road.

I've had them fixed for £2, but that didn't include any balancing that they might have to do on a front tyre.

They were always perfectly fine on the road, you'd never know they're there :P

I'd expect that if track abuse would loosen a repair they wouldn't be considered safe enough to do as the tyre fitters have no idea what kind of driving the tyre will be subject to. They will have to be certain that no mater what your driving style that the repair will stay in place, just like any car repair.
