Gtiracer 0 Posted February 16, 2007 Hi guys, did a search but couldn't find anything specific to my problem, i normally do however. Anyhow, Accidentally i left my lights on the other day during the day due to poor visibility and forgot to turn them off cos obviously don't normally have them on during the day So finding this out when i come to jump in the car today, no start and find lights have been left on, damn. jumpleads come out and get my rover to charge the battery for 10mins or so, fire the pug up and take it out for a decent drive to charge the battery, no battery light, fans work, stereo works, lights work and no dimming, great, anyhow, im out for about 20mins ish, come home and turn everything off, Try to start the car just to check everything works, and no it doesn't start, just clicks and struggles to turn over the engine. second time i try to start just get clicks. Any ideas anyone?

Any ideas anyone? sounds like the battery has been discharged to such an extent that its probably damaged the cells. check the water level if it isnt a sealed type and try charging it on a proper charger over night. if its still no good its new battery time im afraid. Gtiracer 0 Posted February 16, 2007 just spoken to my brother and gave me the exact same feedback, my own stupid fault for leaving them on, have got hold of a battery charger and will wack it on charge tonight. At least its not anything more serious though and an easy fix
Gtiracer 0 Posted February 17, 2007 just a quick post in addition to this thread with more dumb questions but i'm charging the battery on someones battery charger thats quite old, and there is a gauge to say the 'charge rate' and this gauge is going down! So either battery is fooked or maybe thats the amount of charge to be put into it? i don't understand, sorry. Im embarrased to even ask but its gotta be done. Gtiracer 0 Posted February 17, 2007 is it normal to also hear noises coming from the battery when charging it aswell?
Guest cknotty Posted February 17, 2007 is it normal to also hear noises coming from the battery when charging it aswell? It is hydrogen and oxygen gas being given off from the plates inside. Wikipedia says it is due to overcharging using excessive charging voltages. Make sure it is in well ventilated area, as hydogen is flammable and explosive in air.
