DTORU 0 1 Cars Posted February 14, 2007 Took the car for an MOT yesterday and it failed big time, i got 1 page of advisorys and 2 pages of Faliures! Ummm did know the car was quite so poorly! The main thing wrong is the the rear beam, the bearings have collapsed on the left hand rear. I need to source either a replacment in exxelent condition or a recon beam for a 1.6 GTI ASAP! But the problem is that the car lives on the street i dont like the ldea of leaving it for any length of time with no rear beam sitting on axel stands as the neibourghs will moan and im sure it carnt be good for the car! Only worry is if i fit a another beam is it also going to to broke or about to break. I do have the old 1.8DT beam but someone said its not as good as the GTi one for handling and its softer??? took it off last year to fit the 1.6 GTI one but think its ok for MOT but untill ive spent a day fitting it i wont know and dont want to waste time messing around. Looking at £200-£400 cheaper the better as the MOT was £53 and the retest Is that again as ive took the car away. The other faults are bulbs and small minor isues that are an easy fix. jonnie205 1 Posted February 14, 2007 Best to get somebody on here to rebuild you a beam then you can fit it. I would be happy to do it for you but you would have to come to me, you could try Anthony on here to. There is a few other but i foregt who does them. No ponit in fitting a non rebuilt one as it simply wont last and will either fail mot or wear out for the next mot.

Thats what i thought but i carnt travel as the mot and tax have just ran out and its my only car and rear beams wont travel on the motorbike, lol. I would of brought one off SSP but they need mine to rebuild and its a little pricey as the moment as ive just forcked out £1000 on a hybrid tyrbo and £480 on a cam. PM'ed anthony to see what he says, just didnt expect the beam to be broke all the other stuff is being done on sunday just siliy little things like blub blow in rear folg lamp, reversing lamp stays on all the time (didnt when i left but had been of the road for 2 months and an untested gear box), headlight aim on side to high, strut top mount missingf one of the 3 mounting points, front r/h brake binding, rear r/h wheel bearing siezed, handbrake cable worn, etc etc nothing major that itnt a quick fix. At least when its done there wont be a lot left to go wrong!

Guest BrainFluid Posted February 15, 2007 MOT was £53 and the retest Is that again as ive took the car away. Sound like a bunch of cocks to me. £50.35 is the max they can leagally charge for the initail MOT acording to VOSA btw... And when they retest it time how long it takes them if they DONT do a full retest then I dont see why they should charge you for one. And If indeed they do only do a partial retest then they can only charge you maximum 50% of the initial mot cost. Dont worry I'm sure you will be Zooming down the road all leagal like before you know it!
