clifton 0 Posted February 13, 2007 i am after an uprated cam and i have been looking at the piper 285 cams but it says not recommended for use with standard injection, but if i run it with standard injection would it do any harm? and if it would what could i do to make t suitable to use
Ahl 4 Posted February 14, 2007 It probably won't do any harm, it just won't idle very well at all! (and these engines idle badly as standard). From my understanding, the head is also quite restrictive so in order to get a decent gain (or just a better starting point anyway) you'd want to have the ports flowed properly, as well as having it skimmed in order to raise compression. In addition to this, its likely the standard management won't be able to supply the correct fuelling for the cam. So do all that...or fit an mi16.
vtr_driver 0 Posted February 14, 2007 I seem to remember reading an article written by the head honcho of Puma Racing saying most cams for the 8v GTI don't actually work and the way to release power is by doing headwork. I don't know how true this is. It may be my dodgy memory playing tricks on me

boombang 2 Posted February 14, 2007 and i would get an mi16 but i wouldnt be able to get insured on it... I found insurance was as cheap if not cheaper with an Mi in a 205, as have many others!
clifton 0 Posted February 14, 2007 I found insurance was as cheap if not cheaper with an Mi in a 205, as have many others! im only 17 though and my insurance is already £2500 ha but i doubt it would be cheaper for me at that age
GLPoomobile 958 Posted February 15, 2007 im only 17 though and my insurance is already £2500 ha but i doubt it would be cheaper for me at that age If you go through companies such as HIC or Adrian Flux they tend to insure the vehicle based on the group of the donor vehicle. A 1.9 gti is group 15 (IIRC) which is the same as a 405 Mi16 (again, IIRC). Hence many members have found it does not change their insurance. Some have even ended up saving on the insurance as I think the Cit BX 16v is a group lower! Anyway, the point is you are going to get an increase in your insurance anyway if you start tuning your engine, and I'm lead to believe that insurers will often charge more for a tuned engine than a standard engine transplanted and of similar power.
