Rear End Has Dropped On The Drivers Side

Recommended Posts

Guest rich1977

decided to take the mi to work with me today rather than using the daily run around, and I started to notice a knocking noise from the rear whenever I went over a bump and could hear something like a pad binding aswell, didnt think much of it as car was driving and handling fine woried me slightly when i was getting the knocking when pulling away from junctions but continued my journey with no other problems.

once at work had a quick look at car bounced the back end a bit pulled on rear wheel checked underneath but couldnt find anything wrong with it until I stepped away and noticed the rear wheel was in the arch and drivers side rear suspension had dropped a good 2" so jacked it up couldn't find anything blindingly obvious droped her down again and she settled the same as always, driving home was no knocking untill i went over a speed ramp got home same thing again driver side rear is 2" lower than passenger side rear, is this a bolloxed rear beam? im hoping it aint as ive only had the car for a short while and already had more problems than any of my rovers gave me and im really considering selling up

sounds like its starting to seize on that side of the beam, time to take it apart before it renders the tube scrap.

was the rear beam rebuilt at same time as the car? It could be the bearings have broken up and are catcting in differant places in the tube as you go over bumps and making the ride hight change?

to rule out the shock being to blame just swap the two rears over.(tho i doubt it will be the shocks).

little update doesnt seem to be the beam as I gave it a good going over today both sides are moving freely without any creaking or knocking, I have bounced the rear up and down and its settling as it should even put handbreak on and made it squat a few times pulling off with it on and cant make it knock either, found out why it looks to be lower one side aswell previous owner mounted one arch 1" lower on drivers side DOH!!!!.

when driving im still getting the knocking seems to be mainly when im accelerating hard from stand still and when Im slowing down so im thinking its the exhaust hitting the beam although i discovered today that front drivers wheel has back and forward movement when under load (doesn't do it jacked up) so knocking could be front end both arms where changed for mot, but been told steering rack might be loose so will have a gander later.
