Hub Adapters And Larger Offset?

Recommended Posts

johnnyboy666

right, i'm planning on fitting a set of ats cups to my xs (youve probably seen them on golfs or polos) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ATS-Cup-7x15-ET20-VW...VQQcmdZViewItem

just to show you what they look like, i think they would look amazing on a 205 giving it a real euro look and as far as i'm aware its never been done before, the only problem is they only make them in pcd 4x100 so i need to use hub adapters which cost me an arm and a leg, and theyre 25mm thick also the wheels only come in offsets of 20 or 28 thus giving me (i think) an offset of either 45 or 53 which is a lot larger than the intended offset (23? or so) so what i want to know is how the offset will affect the handling and drivability of the car?

also they come in 7inch wide or 8 inch wide, i will have wide arches on the car by the time i get these so im just wondering which would be best?

thanks

john

I think you might be struggling to fit these.

The offset you want is ET19 (which I believe is the same for most base models and the 1.9 GTI.)

The offset and hub adapters work the other way round, so fitting the 25mm adapter to the ET28 wheel will bring it to ET3. This means the centre line of the wheel will be sticking out by 16mm more than the original wheels.

They will probably rub the standard arches quite seriously at that, and it won't do the handling any good at all. (Even if you only fit the 7" rims, which are still pretty wide. 8" is just silly for the car and ruin the handling even further.)

Unfortunately it seems like a lot of work and expense, just so you can have the ATS wheels on your car. Perhaps you could try contacting ATS directly to see if they would make a set of the ET20 wheels in the correct PCD?

If you decide to have it as a 'show car' (and completely disregard the handling) then theres nothing to stop you getting the hub adapters, wide wheels and wide arches. :)

some good points there thanks, as for contacting ats to make a special set for me i think thats a little to much effort and would be far to expensive plus they would most likely say no.

does anybody who has or has driven a dimma have anything to note about the handling as they must have some pretty substantial spacers or extremely wide wheels ( i believe t16s had something like 10j wheels??!!) surely that would affect the car in the same way as fitting the ats cups would?

sorry to steal the thread...but i have some o.z superlegeras with and offset of et37...and i went to lkperformance and they told me i would need some 20mm hubcentric spacers...so i bought some..and im just wondering will this make the handeling of my car sh!t and will they rub standard arches?

i think that should make the offset just right but as to wether the rub the arches or not will depend on wheel diameter and tyre size i suppose

No because you're bringing the offset back to almost standard.

It really won't! Not for the track anyway.

Mine are 7" ET11 and fit fine no rubbing, another inch to 8" is probably possible without any major modifications.

sounds like it could be possible then, thing is with it being a roland garros the arches arent the same as the gti's but with a bit of luck i'll get the arches snipped a little so i can fit the gti trim thats been kicking round my shed for ages

Yes, I run 16 x 8s, like all our 205 race cars do. Tend to use ford racing wheels, ET25-28 and use spacers as required. Currently have a spare set for sale

What are the biggest hubcentric spacers you can get? 25mm? or do they do 30?

I'm looking at some 15x7's et40 Do you think i'd need to run offset 0 with them or would 10 be ok?

Got to clear brembos aswell.
