Guest Tom Dimma Posted February 11, 2007 i blew my engine up on friday nite and when taking it apart i found sharreds of metal in the head and when i removed the head there was a snapped valve dug into the top of the piston. my question is can u remove the pistons without having to take the crank out or not? just so i know whether or not i have to take the rest of the engine out. Sandy 191 Posted February 11, 2007 You can, but with that sort of failure, i'd be inclined to strip and inspects properly out of the car.

Sandy 191 Posted February 11, 2007 if you take the gearbox off, you can lift that bottom end out by hand, it's easily light enough unless you have back trouble etc.
