205 1.6, 91 on a J

Move the stalk to indicate and the light comes on but does not go out. I fixed this before by tightening the battery leads on my last 205 but no joy this time. I've replaced the all the fuses in the fusebox, well the little ones anyway, still nothing.

What are those big chunky square things behind them?

Thanks in advance

sounds like a relay problem - they're those 'big chunky square things' :)

not sure which one is the indicator relay - is it in Haynes?

Thats my problem I think. I have 4 relays and there are cutouts for 5! Haynes does not describe what each does. My local Car accessory shop has relays for sale @ 8.50 that look like they will fit, same pin out. They are 40amp. Would these be compatible?

i've just had a look at mine ('91 1.9) and the indicator relay is the third in from the right

there's no current rating on it though

maybe take the car round to the motorfactor and ask if they'll let you 'borrow' it for a minute to check that it works in your car

Cheers for that. Do you have 5 relays in or just 4?

i think there were 5, with sockets for 6 - the second one in from the left is empty on mine

It's one of the green ones, Mine went a few weeks back,

I had to tap it to get it to work.

If you call a a breakers yard, just babout any old peugeot will have one.

chances are they will give it you.

Its a grey one on my car. Third in from the right. If I tap it the indicators work. Never new that one. What do the others do?

Anything with a high enough current loading so you reduce the risk of higher currents floating around the switches where you are, and also you don't have to run thicker gauge wire everywhere. Examples will be heated rear window, headlamps/driving lamps and electric windows.

Some also have a timer function, such as intermittent wipers.

Gone through every scrapyard in a 20 mile radius. They don't have them and won't allow you to look around. I've been quoted 74 from a Peugeot dealer, is this correct or is it a case of ripoff Ireland as with everything else?

I paid £4 from a Peugeot specialist and I thought that was expensive as it was second hand too.
