Difference Between Sensor And Sender.

Recommended Posts

sonofsam

Hi All, sorry this might seem like a lame question! But I take it a sensor neads a wire connection and a sender doesnt?

Basically want to know as I have a temp sender for a temperature guage ( aftermarket, with no instructions)

Am thinking of trying using it for inlet temp possibley?

Ta,

Sam.

theres a temp senser on the throttle body of your turbo that the ecu uses, why not try building a guage to give a visual reading in the car of this senser?

Sensor and sender are just different words for the same thing.

sender is the guage and is conected to a sensor via a wire or multiple wires

you may be able to conect it to the air temp sensor

i always thought that a sender required its own power supply then sent a signal that could be used as feed back ie 4-20ma/0-5volts this can then be displayed or used as an imput say on esu.

a sensor has no supply and is their to give feed back normally specific to the instrumentation being used ie thermocouple n my opinion a pressure sensor is an example of a sensor the lamda is a sender?

Cheers for the replies Guy's

Inferno- I might well look into that!

The guage I have seems to have no wire connection for a sensor( but does need its own power), but was supplied with a sensor unit ( also has no wire connection)

So by that means , i can use the guage with any old sensor, needs to be air temp i suppose, as the one supplied is for water temp.
