axnutty 10 Posted February 6, 2007 Firstly Ive searched already, but couldnt find anything it could be...Id have thought it would have been covered though already. Everything else is Anyways, cars been going well, and having just put in half a tank of BP Ultimate...sun shining...dry road...no traffic... So I boot it and have some fun on a twisty B road. Come to a left hand corner and am pushing hard(ish) I notice out of the corner of my eye the rev counter drop from 5K to 1K fairly rapidly. I instantly turn to oil pressure in case im getting surge - but that was fine...just the engine has totally dropped as if Id just turned it off mid corner. I coast round the remainder of the corner and back to straight and level it picks up again fine. It does this on every corner on the way home (i was trying to induce it to see if I could get some more symptons ) Now I would say: "low fuel" but its got more in now than ive ever have in normally. "loose wires" fuel realy playing up? Anything else I should consider? I would be very surprised if it were fuel surge...very bad design if it is!
hengti 2 Posted February 6, 2007 only ever had fuel surge on track days and it has always been on righthanders - now, that might be because the fuel pick up pipe is on the right hand side of the car (think it is isn't it - ?) or it might just be because the majority of the corners on a clockwise circuit are going to be righthanders! when you say that you noticed the revs dropping off - did it seem as if the signal to the tacho had suddenly been cut and the needle dropped immediately or did the drop off in revs seems consistent with engine speed? reason i ask is that i remember having a problem with a distributor that led to intermittent cutting out, especially during hard cornering for some reason
nick 3 Posted February 6, 2007 As above sounds more electrical to me. I've driven hard with the fuel light on and never had it cut out. I've also been in a 205 on a track day that suffered fuel surge and that was more of a drop in power rather than a cut off. Nick
Guest cknotty Posted February 6, 2007 I remember that happening to someone before, and I came up with this: http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=53233 So it looks like it could be more like loose electrics somewhere. I've also heard/read on here that it could also be a corroded earth strap between the gearbox and the car body. Chris
dd_156ar 0 Posted February 7, 2007 When I started to get these symptoms it was the ignition amplifier giving up the ghost. Fitted a new one and the problems disappeared. Dan
axnutty 10 Posted February 7, 2007 (edited) Right ive had a good look at this today and have discovered the following...thanks for all the sugestions btw. POSSIBLE CULPRITS: 1./ The little metal clip that holds the plug to Ignition amp is rusty and doesnt retain the plug very well...most likely culprit...also noticed the poor LT wire connection at the coil itself Pic 2./ The wire coming from the distributer itself is broken - could be causing it, if not now certainly in the future as itll corrode nicely now no doubt Pic 3./ I have moved the fuse/power block on the slam panel to accomodate the AFM (KN filter conversion) and its left the little power lead from the battery rather taught which cant be doing any good. Any further thoughts or suggestions appriciated Ill update with outcome later on. Edited February 7, 2007 by axnutty
axnutty 10 Posted February 7, 2007 Well ive sorted out all of those points and it seems to be ok now. Odly it now seems to be idling at 1500...when it always did idle at ~900 before yesterday. A quick blast around my local roads indicates that it certainly isnt cutting out anymore though! Thanks to those you put in some advice...appriciated.
