paul205mi16 4 Posted February 4, 2007 Hi. I'm having problems with my 1.9 Mi16, It is around 2500 RPM at idle and hunts when cold. I know after reading through past posts that i should check for an air leak (which will be done over the next few days) -But I have took the ICV off the car and started to clean it, Also I put 12V to the terminals to check it and it does open/close. I'm wondering however if the ICV should be open or closed with no power supply conected? At the moment its slightly open with no power to it. the valve inside seems to be a barrel which rotates to stop/let air through. Can these be adjusted as there is some sort or screw on the side which has some tamperproff glue or something on it? Thanks. Paul.
Ryan 99 Posted February 4, 2007 I had exactly the same problem. Check that the switch on the throttle body is working when you close the throttle. Sometime it's the switch itself, other times the pins in the plug get pushed back and don't make a proper connection.

I tried to adjust mine, by drilling the glue out. But it didn't really change much. I suppose the ECU has a target idle rev depending on engine temperature and uses the ICV to achieve this. paul205mi16 4 Posted February 5, 2007 cheers for the replys. I will check the TPS on the throtle body tonight for loose conections-Hopefully it will sort it out, I'll have a look to see if there is any air leeks too.
paul205mi16 4 Posted February 6, 2007 Hi. Well It's been a long night considering that i did'nt go out to try and fix the car till after 9pm, But, I have sorted the idle problem out, Turns out that i should have checked for dirt that i found around the throttle butterflys, They was slightly stuck open and had a small amount of play, I cleaned the dirt of with lighter fuel (lol-no wd40) and it idles around 1000Rpm-which is great. I then had another problem the car was running on 2 cylinders-No 1+2, Turns out two of the newish spark plugs i bought was'nt giving enough spark. Anyway things are on the up so far as long as something else does'nt go wrong. Maybe i can have a drive with this mi16 engine installed-At last!!!! Thanks. Paul.
