Help With Exhaust Diameters

Recommended Posts

dee205

As per my 'wanted' post. I'm going to order a reducer piece of exhaust pipe to mate my downpipe to my magnex.

Does anyone know what size the downpipe is and what size the front of the magnex stainless system is? I sick as a dog with the flu and there's no chance of me lying under a car in freezing weather like this!

I was also thinking about the possibility of removing the middle section and box and replacing it with a length of pipe which can also be got from www.burtonpower.com which 28CRAIG pointed me in the direction of.

Would this be a bad idea? ie. too making the car too loud or anything.

Thanks

Damien

the standard GTi Exhaust Diameter is 2.0 inches, it gets out from the Exhaust Manifold as 2.5 but then welded to 2.0 inches for the whole exhaust system

I can measure the 2 as i have both loose outside, will do tomorrow and post back.

Sounds like you want to do exactly what i want to, running a std downpipe to a Magnex system, without the reduction you get on the std downpipe, as the std downpipe is smaller bore than the magnex system, i was going to cut the downpipe before the reduction to 2" and weld a same size pipe (2.25" ish) in to then sleeve straight in to the magnex centre, so not having any reduction.

buuuuuuuuuut [opens tin of worms] surely the reduction is there as part of the tuned length to keep the gas speed up the further it gets from the engine [/tin of worms] taking out the restriction will lose you gas speed, which in an untuned engine isn't going to help it any.
