[trackday_prep] My 205 GTI-6 Supercharged Track Car

Recommended Posts

Sounds sweet very interested in this setup, probably got a couple of days left in the ds3000's and not really wanting to keep the stock calipers.

Will be much lighter than the brembo 4's and no issues with spacing hopefully

exactly :D

my pads are just over a yeard old and hardly warn..lol but at least i can sell these on :P

if i change :( which is looking likely :D

Im definately changing to something the lightweight of the elise stuff is looking favourite ;)

I have done a good few trackdays on my ds3000's lost count how many. They've warped 5 sets of discs so far so thats a cost i am hoping to abolish with the new setup. Also will be fitting ducting so that will help with heat issues.

i'm still on the same std pug gti6 discs,

how are you warping disc's?

what disc's and front calipers have you got at the moment?

Standard discs and stock front calipers with braided hoses and ds3000's. Ap racing fluid

Used a set of groved ebc first warped them so decided to go with cheap ones since.

I think it's because they are brand new and i take them out and hammer them on track and i can't bed them in gently beforehand.

Elise caliper weight = 1480 grams without pads and retaining fasteners

= 1920 with pads and retaining fasteners

Brackets are no problem for me to design.

Elise disc size was either FRONT DISCS ARE 288MM X 26MM or FRONT DISCS ARE 283MM X 26MM.

Does someone confirm the 306 gti-6 disc size I think its 283mm x 22mm. Which would make it too narrow.

Also does anyone have any idea about whether there are any Peugeot /Citroen brake discs that match the Elise dimensions?

http://www.ebcbrakesdirect.com/car/parts_d...%2896%2D2001%29

This shows the elise measurements and the 307 discs the only difference is 4mm height the elise is 30mm and the 307 34mm.

Would this be the one to make the elise calipers fit with the right brackets?

Yes, by height i am sure they mean offset.

Get a pair ordered and I will do the rest Spiky.

In fact if you just drop a wheel off at mine I have gti6 discs I can use for trial fitment.

If its a track car considering the citroen c5 steelies (aluminum) might be an option, they weight in at a meeger 4.6kgs... and will fit the 307 HDI 283mm set up behind them with no clearance issues.

How much weight would you like to save off the brakes

I know your not going to like me saying it but if you moved your belts you could cut all that out loads quicker and a lot lighter.

The best areas iv found to look at are the bits where the seatbelts use to bolt to as there reinforced

i have already ordered some eyes and clips to mount the belts on the old seat belt mounts

as for the holes and weight loss, it's insiration from your thread that made me decide to do it

I don't understand how its so heavy. My Visa was 790kg on Snettertons weigh bridge and its road legal. They only weigh about 20kg less than a 205 to start with and are 5 door as well. Ok my ally 16v is a bit lighter but all panels are metal, insides of doors cut out though, perspex windows but thats same as you, I guess it all adds up ie 13's, light 1.6 calipers but still a big difference! Im sure ive heard of 16v 205's being down near 700kg although admittedly not road legal but thats still with lights etc so not exactly much more removed

Well more progress tonight :P

i have cut out the harness bar and the plates holding it in place, then weighed it

4.5kgs ...OUCH

and as you can see from the pics i will be clipping the harness to the rear floor seat belt locations

then i set about cutting more holes out :)

you'd be better getting a harness bar put in your cage spike, the angle on the shoulder straps down to the rear belt points is awfully steep and out of most harness manufacturers recommended safe angles, and probably the blue book too iirc.

i would love too, but i cant with the omp cage as the bars are too central :P

unless you can show me pics on a harness bar on a omp cage???

i dont like the idea of them at that angle, but thats how they will be untill i can find an alternative

no i've not seen them on an omp cage either, it would be a custom job i guess :P

For reference my 205 when it was MI engined, fully trimmed up, with a bit of fuel and no driver weighed in at 860kg. Id imagine its around 10-20kg heavier now, as ive got the '6 lump, but saved weight on things like the brakes. Now im thinking bout it im gonna go weigh it again at the weekend.

so have they just cut the rear section off and mount it to the rear floor?

the only reason i not modified my cage is that i could sell it on.

maybe i should just forget that idea and do that?
